See below for a link to a video of a zoom meeting recently organised by ‘We Own It’ on how to maximise Starmer’s GND, and get it into the Labour manifesto.
The panel includes Alan Whitehead, Labour shadow on the environment, and is well worth watching.
Last night nearly 200 of you joined us for an online event to discuss Labour’s policy of creating a new publicly owned renewable energy generation company, Great British Energy (a policy that We Own It helped to make happen). There were fantastic speakers, thoughtful questions and a great atmosphere! The Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Net Zero, Dr Alan Whitehead MP spoke and said he would give feedback to the front bench. You sent him a very clear message – Great British Energy must be seriously ambitious. We Own It is independent of any political party but if Great British Energy happens, we want it to be a huge success!
Our new polling, out yesterday, shows that people would want Great British Energy’s profits to be spent on cutting bills, investing in wind, water and solar power and insulating homes as the top three priorities.

In countries like Norway, Denmark, France and Austria they are already doing this! The city of Munich owns wind power on the coast of the UK and it uses the profits to invest in public transport and swimming pools!

If you enjoyed the discussion last night, or if you wish you’d been there – why not sign up to get notified about our weekly webinarsEvery Thursday lunchtime from 12.30-1pm we gather online to share the latest campaign news and what we can do about it – whether on the NHS, buses, rail, water or energy.

You can eat your lunch, connect with likeminded people and take action for public ownership, all at the same time!

We’d love to see you this Thursday.

PS In Parliament today, MPs are talking about how to tackle the problem of sewage in our rivers and seas. Check out our blog on 5 ways politicians could force the privatised water companies to do better, or be taken into public ownership.
